De Atramentis Document Dark Red

I have inked up a vintage Parker stub nib fountain pen with the De A Document dark red. So far no problems with ink flow at all. This red is a 'subdued' red rather than a true dark red, more like a vintage look. It works really well with watercolour washes applied after the ink work, I just give it a bit of drying time to ensure it doesn't move. It is a nice ink for written script as well, on a slightly toned paper it delivers an old world look. I am really enjoying the Document dark red, cannot wait to try the De Atramentis Urban Sienna that I bought at the same time - it will go in my Lamy Joy stub nib once it is empty and I can clean the Joy.

Red brick

I love this ink. It goes on red and drys to a dark reddish brown. The color of aged red brick.

like the red chalk of the old masters

I started looking for permanent inks after rain destroyed my notes from the Denver art museum and more. I first got a sample and fell in love with the color. It's not a bright red -- I'd say it looks more like sanguine. Fitting for a permanent ink. Not only that, it has decent shading and is fairly well behaved. My only complaint is the price mark for a 35 mL bottle, but it's supposed to be handmade and presumably not produced in large quantities.

Frequently Asked Questions

Which pens can accept this ink? 8EDA1617-F73A-4DAF-8245-6D2BF4ABEB7B

Any of these fountain pens will work with bottled ink. Typically, as long as the pen can be filled with a converter, has a built-in filling mechanism like a piston, or can be eyedropper-filled, it can accept bottled ink. You can also refill an empty ink cartridge from bottled ink using an ink syringe.
