This 50ml bottle of Jacques Herbin 1670 Gris Orage (Stormy Grey) is a medium-dark grey fountain pen ink with an intense gold shimmer and sheen. It is an ink formulated for use in fountain pens, and comes in a 50ml glass bottle, made by the reputable French company Jacques Herbin. Each bottle cap is hand dipped in sealing wax, with a stamped "1670" seal on the front of the bottle, and is individually packaged in a collector edition box.

Due to the amount of particulate in this ink used to achieve the sparking look, you may experience restricted ink flow in some of your pens. We recommend shaking the ink thoroughly before filling and gently rolling the pen in your hands often to keep the shimmer effect consistent. This will also help prevent clogging. You will also want to be diligent about cleaning and maintaining your pen when using this ink.

Far less shimmer than expected

Shimmer is next to non existent, unfortunately, despite all the "shacking the bottle, rolling the pen" efforts.Medium shadowing, medium saturation, medium lubrication (Pilot Namiki Falcon SB gold nib). Not exactly the performance I expected with all this hype.Very nice bottle though

Perfect Match

This was my first glitter ink, so it is a novel experience. My current interest is in matching ink to pens, and this color is a perfect match for the carbon fiber pen that I just arrived at in my rotation, so it is a very satisfying product.

Not a Very Practical Ink

This ink arrived with a sticker on the outside of the packaging that basically said not to leave this in pens long term because it may clog them. As a result I decided to test it in my cheaper preppy pen. When you shake the ink, the gold metallic will mix with the ink, but the gold falls out of solution almost instantly and can be seen again from the underside of the bottle. As a result, if you DO want to risk putting this in a pen, you have to act fast. It's pretty, but not very practical at all. You cannot even really use it with a dip pen because of how fast the gold falls back to the bottom. It's a really expensive ink to be this difficult to use.

Excellent ink

I really love the way this ink looks. I usually shake the bottle prior to filling a pen but I would recommend letting it settle for a few seconds before filling. The amount of gold is a lot so the ink looks rather gold vice black with a gold shimmer. This is a comment on nibs vice the ink itself: make sure your nib can handle particulates. My Kickstarter pens with Bock fees and nibs & my Lamy pens can handle The inks but the Twisby pens I borrowed from a friend don't like them at all. So be ready to try them out on different feeds

how bout some labeling?

Ink was fine, but how about some labeling about your company and the name of the ink, in case I'd like to buy it again Don't you think that would be best for both of us

Frequently Asked Questions

Which pens can accept this ink? 8EDA1617-F73A-4DAF-8245-6D2BF4ABEB7B

Any of these fountain pens will work with bottled ink. Typically, as long as the pen can be filled with a converter, has a built-in filling mechanism like a piston, or can be eyedropper-filled, it can accept bottled ink. You can also refill an empty ink cartridge from bottled ink using an ink syringe.

Is shimmering ink safe to use in fountain pens? 8EDA1617-F73A-4DAF-8245-6D2BF4ABEB7B

Yes! Shimmering ink (a fountain pen ink that has small particles of glitter mixed in) is a great way to add some flare to your writing. We have found that a larger nib will showcase more shimmering particles while writing, but you can use any nib size with shimmering ink. While it is safe to use in fountain pens, it may require a little extra maintenance.

Due to the amount of particulate in this ink used to achieve the sparking look, you may experience restricted ink flow in some of your pens, especially with finer nibs.

We recommend shaking the ink thoroughly before filling, and gently rolling the pen in your hands often to keep the shimmer effect consistent. This will also help prevent clogging.

You will also want to be diligent about regularly cleaning and maintaining your pen when using this ink.
