50ml plastic bottle of Robert Oster Shake 'N' Shimmy shimmer fountain pen ink in the color Aussie Liquid Gold - a yellow ink with added gold shimmer.

Robert Oster Signature Inks are handmade in Australia. The recyclable PET bottles are manufactured in Australia's first carbon neutral plastics plant.

Note: Robert Oster is in the process of changing the labels on their bottle and the label on the bottle you receive may vary from what is pictured here.

Due to the amount of particulate in this ink used to achieve the sparking look, you may experience restricted ink flow in some of your pens. We recommend shaking the ink thoroughly before filling and gently rolling the pen in your hands often to keep the shimmer effect consistent. This will also help prevent clogging. You will also want to be diligent about cleaning and maintaining your pen when using this ink.

A message from Robert Oster:

My great interest in fountain pen inks – and by extension inks that combine many creative applications – began with the birth of my love of fountain pens in 1989.

As Robert Oster Signature Inks are quite recent to the market, think of the interim between 1989 and today, as the fertile ground into which my present love of all things ink was seeded and grown.

The contents and packaging of my Inks are all nature friendly and the colours a genuine inventory of the Australian palette.

Robert Oster Signature originates from one of the most famous wine producing regions of the world, the Coonawarra district of South Australia, an idyllic setting with great influence on the senses. There is my inspiration. It’s a joy to share it with you.

An unfortunate smelting accident

This is a decent ink, let's start with that. Shades really nice, flow is good, but in the sections where there is no gold flake the color is pretty light. If I didn't already have a bottle of Edelstein Golden Beryl, maybe this ink would rate higher, but one is far superior to the other.

Gorgeous and Surprisingly Writeable

This is a lovely, shimmering ink! Although the base is a fairly light yellow, perhaps because of the high shimmer factor, it actually lays down well on paper and is solid enough to show up clearly, even on cream paper. I use it in my diary to mark important events, but have taken meeting notes with it as well, without having to struggle to read what I had written. So it is not exactly an everyday ink, but it is more than capable of being useful when you want a message to look extra-cool. No clogging issues with the pen (Conklin with B 14k nib), although the usual practices for shimmer inks - turning and moving it to keep the particles moving - apply. Another wonderful ink from Robert Oster!

Frequently Asked Questions

Which pens can accept this ink? 8EDA1617-F73A-4DAF-8245-6D2BF4ABEB7B

Any of these fountain pens will work with bottled ink. Typically, as long as the pen can be filled with a converter, has a built-in filling mechanism like a piston, or can be eyedropper-filled, it can accept bottled ink. You can also refill an empty ink cartridge from bottled ink using an ink syringe.

Is shimmering ink safe to use in fountain pens? 8EDA1617-F73A-4DAF-8245-6D2BF4ABEB7B

Yes! Shimmering ink (a fountain pen ink that has small particles of glitter mixed in) is a great way to add some flare to your writing. We have found that a larger nib will showcase more shimmering particles while writing, but you can use any nib size with shimmering ink. While it is safe to use in fountain pens, it may require a little extra maintenance.

Due to the amount of particulate in this ink used to achieve the sparking look, you may experience restricted ink flow in some of your pens, especially with finer nibs.

We recommend shaking the ink thoroughly before filling, and gently rolling the pen in your hands often to keep the shimmer effect consistent. This will also help prevent clogging.

You will also want to be diligent about regularly cleaning and maintaining your pen when using this ink.
