Cheerful and smooth

Like another reviewer said, this ink works well with highlighters! I love the color; it’s bright but still sharp. Works well with a Lamy extra fine nib, and even on the crappiest copy paper it’s not bad, though it feathers. On even slightly decent paper (like a Kokuyo Campus notebook) it’s great, even when I’m writing fast!

Exactly what I was looking for

I needed an ink that would flow properly through my pen but also be less smudge prone and (most importantly) not ruin my highlighters. This did so with a lovely purple color that is right up my alley. Will be purchasing a full bottle soon!

Bold Strong PERMANENT Violet

I'm a newish fountain pen geek, both enthusiastic and a bit eccentric. Ink reviews are tricky. Fountain pen writing depends on at least four strong variables: ink, feed, nib, and paper. Change any one of them and you may get something quite different. So allow that your results will vary from mine. I'm using an EF nib in a 100 gsm Miliko dot journal. I do a lot of fine lettering, so my ideal ink must pass three tests: (1) EF Fine. An EF nib should deliver an EF line. But some inks are just too generous and make fat lines that just don't care that you want EF. (2) permanent. It is INK after all; it should not wash off the page. (3) dries. By the time I get to the end of the line, the first words should not smear. And when I close the journal, let's not have any facing page blottage. (4) a fourth, bonus test: I like inks that show some shading. North African Violet (NAV) is [x] permanent, and [x] it dries quickly, but [-] it doesn't keep a thin EF line from my EF nib. NAV is sooo permanent, I get zero smear with a wet fingertip. It is so strong, it takes extra work to clean it out of a clear demonstrator in eyedropper mode: the barrel wants to retain a violet tint. NAV is so bold, I get no shading at all. Nice, strong, violet color and very permanent. But for me, an EF stroke is not EF enough.

IT STAINS!!

PROS:Well saturated, brilliant color with a wet sheen. CONS:It stained my clear pilot kakuno. Some diluted bleach got the color mostly out from the cap and body. As for the nib, it's still being soaked in Goulet's pen wash for 18 hours now and still the color is there.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I fill my fountain pen from an ink sample vial? 8EDA1617-F73A-4DAF-8245-6D2BF4ABEB7B

The technique depends on the fountain pen's filling mechanism.

How much writing can I really do with 2ml? 8EDA1617-F73A-4DAF-8245-6D2BF4ABEB7B

We find that usually you can get 2 good fills for a typical converter with our ink samples, or one good fill with a large capacity piston-filling pen.

How much writing you can do depends on you more than anything else. It mostly depends on how big or small you write, and the nib size you’re using. We recommend experimenting with different nib sizes to find what works best for you.
