Great Ink

Love Ebony Purple. Performs well across several pen and nib types. It's black without being totally black; just a hint of purple.

Ebony purple, not a good choice for fine tip pens

Although I knew that the ink was dark, the outcome was basically a sharpie black. It was so faintly purple that it just looked like a crappy gel pen. The ink had good flow and is probably meant for more wet pens rather than office use imo.

This is my go to black ink

I prefer this ink as my "black" ink choice. I use it as my default ink in my Lamy 2000 (fine nib). It appears black with just a hint of purple. I find black inks boring but this ink lets me write in black but with a subtle tint of purple. It just feels special to me.

Would have loved it, if it were at all purple

Used mostly on cheap and middle of the road paper, not expensive. I found that for me, it was entirely black, not even the faintest bit of purple showed through. Worst bleed through of any inks I've tried so far, but when writing with inks, I don't use both sides of the paper anyway. It did not bleed onto the next page, which is very good. Noticeable feathering, but not bad for the paper I use. Fastest dry time, it's hard to believe how fast this dries, just one to five seconds. Water causes this ink to run a lot, very easily. Yet it still leaves enough ink on the page, so you can read what was written. Oddly, it turns blue in water. It is a good amount for a good price. Overall, it is a good ink and I did enjoy it, but since it is only black, I have far superior blacks than this that are also cheaper, so will only use those from now on.

Adore the ink - the jar, not so much.

Private Reserve fills this wide-mouth jar to the brim. Carefully open it on a flat surface! I use it in a Pilot Custom 823 and this color is wonderful for correspondence; writing pops off the page. My only problem, discovered as I neared the bottom of my previous jar, is that the jar's girth coupled with its shallow depth eventually renders it extremely awkward for or incapable of use in vacuum-filling. I overcame the problem with the purchase of a TWSBI 50 ml inkwell, which has a 'cone' system for concentrating the dregs in a vertical, narrow chamber. Perfect solution. Ink = 5 stars, packaging = 3.

Frequently Asked Questions

Which pens can accept this ink? 8EDA1617-F73A-4DAF-8245-6D2BF4ABEB7B

Any of these fountain pens will work with bottled ink. Typically, as long as the pen can be filled with a converter, has a built-in filling mechanism like a piston, or can be eyedropper-filled, it can accept bottled ink. You can also refill an empty ink cartridge from bottled ink using an ink syringe.
