The TWSBI Vac Mini is a slightly shorter version of the Vac700R. This clear demonstrator fountain pen fills via a vacuum filler mechanism and has a stainless steel nib.

TWSBI's belief is that it is important to allow the user to disassemble and reassemble the pen and completely experience the traditional aspects of owning and using a fountain pen. These pens also come packaged with a wrench and silicone grease. Neither of these accessories are intended to be used immediately, as they are for long-term care and maintenance. Additionally, please use extra care if you choose to disassemble the nib and feed, as the feed is very fragile.

First new fp in 30 years

Fast delivery, just 5 days with standard mail. The box hides a wrench, silicone grease, and two O rings. The pen is small, but the cap screws on to post and the subsequent fit is very comfortable. I had to buy it as soon as I saw how cool the vacuum system is. Had it about a month and so far no leaks, no cracks. The EF nib was scratchy moving right to left, 7 to 11 o'clock, but 30 seconds with micro mesh and mylar and it is as smooth as any. It even writes nicely in reverse.

Loved it while it lasted

Terrific pen all around for a couple of months. Traveled with it, too, without mishaps on flights. I tend to pamper my writing supplies, especially the fountain pens, so it surprised me to find micro fissures at the threads of the grip section and barrel. Ink was slowly leaking onto my fingers as I wrote which is how I discovered the cracks. Disappointing because this Vac Mini was quickly becoming my favorite all around EDC. Hoping my Mini Classic has greater longevity.

Exactly what you'd expect from TWSBI.

I picked this up as my first Vacuum filler in part because I was so happy with my Mini and thought - why not get another great pocket pen? It's everything I expected. The mechanism works flawlessly, and the nib is good. It writes wet and smooth, and I like the idea that I can "turn the ink off" on this pen to make it a little safer to travel with. Couldn't be happier.

Vac Mini

This pen is easy fill using the Twsbi vac bottle. The pen writes smooth and has a Hugh ink capacity. And it is a joy to behold.

A good choice for a leakproof pocket pen

Like other TWSBIs, the nib writes well. I ordered a medium and a spare fine nib. The medium is very wet; the fine is more suitable for everyday writing. The advantage of a vacuum fill for a pocket pen is that it seals off when the blind cap is closed, so it will be difficult to leak if jostled around during the day. My only nit to pick is that there are three possible ways to thread the cap to post. Only one of those ways results in the clip being out of the way. And of course you have a 2/3 chance of getting it wrong on the first try. You really need to post to make it usable, so this is a minor inconvenience. Otherwise, this is a very nice leakproof writer with an enormous ink capacity for such a small pen.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I fill a fountain pen with ink? 8EDA1617-F73A-4DAF-8245-6D2BF4ABEB7B

It depends on the pen's filling mechanism, which you can find in the Technical Specs section above.Ā

Here's a quick definition of the most common filling mechanisms:

  • CartridgeĀ - A small, disposable, sealed plastic reservoir that holds fountain pen ink. These come pre-filled with ink, and typically you just push to insert them into place and you'll be ready to write! Check outĀ our quick guide here.
  • ConverterĀ - A detachable and refillable ink reservoir that allows you to use bottled ink in a cartridge-accepting pen. Typically you will install the converter into the grip section, dip the nib/feed into the ink, and twist or pull the converter knob to draw ink into the converter. Here's a video forĀ how to fill a cartridge/converter penĀ using a LAMY pen as an example.
  • EyedropperĀ - A pen that utilizes the entire barrel as a reservoir for ink. Ink is directly filled into the barrel, allowing for a high ink capacity. Here's aĀ videoĀ on how to do it!
  • PistonĀ - A type of filling system that uses a retracting plunger inside a sealed tube to draw ink into a pen. They are typically either twist or push-operated. These pens cannot accept cartridges or a converter, and only fill from bottled ink.
  • VacuumĀ - A push-style piston that uses pressure to fill the large pen body with ink. They seal the ink chamber when closed, making it ideal for flying without risk of leaking. Check out our video onĀ how to use a vac filler here.

How do I clean this fountain pen? 8EDA1617-F73A-4DAF-8245-6D2BF4ABEB7B

It mostly comes down to flushing out the pen with water, and sometimes a little bit of pen flush if the ink is really stuck.Ā

We put together a blog post with step-by-step instructions, or you can watch the video here:

We recommend a good cleaning every 2 weeks, and any time you change ink colors.Ā Water will usually do the trick, but we recommend you use ourĀ Goulet Pen FlushĀ if the ink has been left in the pen for a while and could have dried up, or when youā€™re switching ink colors.

For even more information about fountain pen cleaning, check out our Fountain Pen 101 video blog post.
