New special edition color for 2023!

The LAMY aion is a series of writing instruments designed by Jasper Morrison. The dark blue body and cap are constructed from solid aluminum, each made from seamless closed components. The body features an anodized matte finish, while the grip has a matte blasted circular-brushed finish. The spring-loaded clip is made from stainless steel with the logo embossed on the side.

A new innovative stainless steel nib with unconventional contours is exclusive to this series, yet interchangeable with the existing LAMY steel nibs. This fountain pen comes with a blue LAMY ink cartridge as well as a LAMY Z27 converter to get you started writing right away!

Note: To ensure quality performance, LAMY tests their pens as a final step in manufacturing. If you happen to see any residual blue ink, rest assured that this is normal.

Smooth, elegant, subtle

Nice glide

Nib works to generate a smooth result but the pen weight triggers removing the cap to write with less tension. Heavier metal body detracts from experience than hoped for...

good quality pen for not a lot of money

very little plastic, excellent quality workmanship. My only small complaint is that it can be tiring over time when one has to do a lot of writing. My fingers sweat a little, then the pen becomes hard to hold. I fixed this with a cork sleeve held in place with rubber bands, but it would be nice if they designed a pen with some friction etched into the metal. Nevertheless, I keep buying this model of Lamy pen because it is the best overall pen for me.

Excellent pen

Good weight and posts well making for a very comfortable writing experience. Ink flow is excellent. Very little bleed through even on low quality paper. Spring loaded clip works well and is durable. I have had this pen for over a year and keep going back to it when I want to not have to mess with the pen to get started. Love to write with this pen. Would definitely recommend.

Not as nice as the Lamy Studio, but still a good pen

Not as nice as the Lamy Studio, but still a good pen. I say that only because the grip section is harder to clean. Plus, compared to the Opus 88 (eyedropper fill) and my Conid Minimalista, it has a very limited ink supply. But that's the case with most converter pens. (Nib replaced with a 14k/fine.)

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I fill this LAMY fountain pen with ink? 8EDA1617-F73A-4DAF-8245-6D2BF4ABEB7B

This fountain pen can fill with proprietary LAMY ink cartridges, or from a LAMY converter.

A cartridge is small, disposable, sealed plastic reservoir that holds fountain pen ink. These come pre-filled with ink, and typically you just push to insert them into place and you'll be ready to write!

This pen uses proprietary LAMY ink cartridges, which are available in a range of colors.

As for converters, LAMY does make two different converters - the red Z28, and the black Z27. All of their fountain pens (except the 2000) can accept the black Z27; typically this converter is included with the higher-end LAMY pens like the aion, cp1, scala, and studio. The red Z28 has additional knobs for a more secure installation that is compatible (and sold separately) on the AL-star, joy, and safari.

We've got a great video demonstrating both filling methods here:

How do I clean a fountain pen? 8EDA1617-F73A-4DAF-8245-6D2BF4ABEB7B

It depends on the filling mechanism, but it mostly comes down to flushing it out with water, and sometimes a little bit of Pen Flush if the ink is really stuck.

It's a bit easier to show than to tell, so we've put together a few quick videos showing you the process:

We recommend a good cleaning every 2 weeks, and any time you change ink colors. Water will usually do the trick, but we recommend you use our Goulet Pen Flush if the ink has been left in the pen for a while and could have dried up, or when you’re switching ink colors.
