The Pineider Avatar UR fountain pen collection was designed by Dante Del Vecchio. The Avatar UR marks a step ahead in pen manufacturing through the use of a revolutionary UltraResin, a new GlueLess assembly process, and a special magnetic twist cap lock design that provides extra protection.

This matte black fountain pen features a black #6 steel nib engraved with the Pineider logo, and is complemented by black trim. This pen comes with a standard international converter, and also accepts standard international cartridges.

Over the last 100 years, the solution to pen breakages has come from the incredible features of celluloid, the sole material able to join incredible beauty and a very high resistance to hits. In the 1920's, fountain pen makers would throw pens from an airplane to demonstrate the resistance of celluloid to impacts. Unfortunately, celluloid has poor heat resistance and can easily crystallize with age (that rapidly leads to the complete loss of the pen), and it is extremely difficult to make.

Introducing UltraResin, a special formula of mother of pearl compound resin developed in Florence for Pineider. This compound is very stiff and its exceptional features makes it far better than celluloid for the creation of fine fountain pens. UltraResin is extremely rigid (nearly like metal), incredibly resistant to hits, and very close to unbreakable. UltraResin is also resistant to oils, inks, electricity, to high and low temperatures, to UV rays, to any weathering condition.

To produce the new Avatar, a new assembly technology has been developed called GlueLess. Thanks to 3D engineering and high precision manufacturing, the Avatar is assembled without using a single drop of glue. A technological puzzle but one where every component fits precisely and securely together with just simple framed parts.

The Avatar closes via a magnetic twist cap that has been designed to last. A film over the internal magnet functions to protect the magnet from corrosion and allows a soft touch closure.

Just like an avatar becomes a virtual alter ego for an individual, this pen is designed to serve as an inseparable lifestyle companion. The rounded form and vibrant color represents the dynamic vitality of youth. The marine steel clip is Pineider’s interpretation of a goose quill, sturdy yet flexible. While each pen is designed to become the alter ego of its owner, Pineider designed the centerband to be the avatar of the city it has proudly called home for the last 240 years, Florence, in honor of the love and affection all Florentines have for the firm’s illustrious name.

Pineide Review

I have three Pineider pens - they are my favorites.

LOVE it

I have a new everyday pen. I love the feel in my hand, love the way the nib interacts with the paper... just love it. And given how hard I love some of my other pens, that's saying something.

It's a "Pineider"

This is the most elegant subdued completely all Black pen that I have ever seen. Although it's a Resin pen, because of the "UR" aspect, it almost feels like metal. Being resin, the pen never slides in my grip. I'm the type of person whereas my hands get clammy very easily. I purchased one with a "ER" nib, and another with a "F". I honestly have to say that this is the smoothest writing pen that I have ever owned or written with. The nib literally glides across the paper..... zero feedback. I also have to make mention that I just love the magnetic closure. It seals tight whereas you just know that the nib will not be drying out any time soon. I also enjoy playing with the cap.

A pen with a perfect body

I purchased this pen specifically because I love the grip section and flat black aesthetic. I noticed that the darkened EF nib on this pen does not write as well as the chrome EF nib on the other Pineider. Not as bad as expected from reviews and certainly useful - but nothing special. The nib unit unscrews and was easily replaced with a custom grind nib housed in a Bock #250 unit. The fact that I can easily swap out with other Bock #250 nib units that I have is what makes this pen perfect for my needs. The cap on the pen is secure, easy to pop on-and-off, and discreet. I really like the ease of use that this pen has (due to the magnetic cap) and the grip section is perfect.

Love this pen

I don't usually like fine nibs. I find them scratchy and unpleasant to write with. So I ordered the Pineider Avatar - Matte Black with a medium nib. I did NOT have any of the issues mentioned in other reviews. My medium nib wrote great straight out of the box. However, it does lay down a lot of ink, and considering I write in my Some Lines a Day journal daily, the thinker lines weren't ideal. So I ordered the same pen with a fine nib. Again, it wrote great straight out of the box and the finer lines fit great in the smaller journal area. I'll keep and write with the medium nib pen (letters mostly). I love the finish and feel of the Pineider Avatar. The weight is perfect and the magnetic cap is a fun feature.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I use this pen with ink cartridges? 8EDA1617-F73A-4DAF-8245-6D2BF4ABEB7B

A cartridge is small, disposable, sealed plastic reservoir that holds fountain pen ink. These come pre-filled with ink, and typically you just push to insert them into place and you'll be ready to write!

This pen uses standard international ink cartridges, a common size which is available in many colors from various brands.

You can learn more about how to actually install an ink cartridge on our blog, or in this video tutorial:

How do I use a converter? 8EDA1617-F73A-4DAF-8245-6D2BF4ABEB7B

A converter goes in the place of where the ink cartridge would normally go. From there, you can fill your fountain pen from bottled ink.

A converter is a detachable and refillable ink reservoir that allows you to use bottled ink in a cartridge-accepting pen. Typically you will install the converter into the grip section, dip the nib/feed into the ink, and twist or pull the converter knob to draw ink into the converter.

We have a great video showing how to use a converter here:

How do I clean this fountain pen? 8EDA1617-F73A-4DAF-8245-6D2BF4ABEB7B

It mostly comes down to flushing out the pen with water, and sometimes a little bit of pen flush if the ink is really stuck.

We put together a blog post with step-by-step instructions, or you can watch the video here:

We recommend a good cleaning every 2 weeks, and any time you change ink colors. Water will usually do the trick, but we recommend you use our Goulet Pen Flush if the ink has been left in the pen for a while and could have dried up, or when you’re switching ink colors.
