Ravens have long held an almost mystical fascination in the human psyche. From Edgar Allen Poe to Norse mythology, depictions of ravens have long interested our storytelling.

Because of this history, Esterbrook was inspired to create a pen that has all of the subtle, mysterious charm of the intelligent and curious corvid. Introducing the Estie Raven. With its matte black body and matching nib and trim, this pen is a departure from our regular colorway -- but no less exciting.

This comfortably balanced Estie Raven, part of the regular lineup, is offered in a fountain pen with black trim. A sleek clip provides a clean accent for the cap and slides easily into a shirt pocket. A cushion cap closure provides a secondary seal to ensure a wet point. Finally, the fountain pen is equipped with a black #6 JoWo steel nib. The Estie fills via standard international cartridge or converter (included).

Stunning pen

This is a stunning pen and comfortable in hand. This is not my favorite writer as a prefer a smoother experience.

Good not Great

The Raven Estie is unmatched in good looks - sleek, dark, and great feel in the hand. But beware - for the price this is an expensive pen. Plastic, with steel nib, and a cartridge converter. I found the pen skipped three of every 10 strokes! No matter the ink. I had to return it and go back to my Pilot Metro which writes without interruption of any kind as a $25 dollar pen. I wanted to love this pen, but just fell short of expectations.

My first Estie

This is my first Esterbrook pen, and my most expensive pen purchase to date. I am highly satisfied with the quality of this pen! I can't stop staring at it. The matte surface feels so nice, and as someone who loves lighter pens, this is the perfect weight. It's not weightless, per se, but light enough that long writing sessions are still comfortable. I love the matching nib color to the barrel, and despite myself having oily hands the matte finish has not disappeared at all. Zero skipping issues, too, and I have used Diamine Oxblood and FWP Atlas Iron Ore (a shimmer ink) without any clogging, burping, or hard starts. Amazing pen!

A true stunner

I totally agree with the other reviews, this a stunning pen. I was surprised just how light this feels in the hand. I purchased a Medium nib as I like a nice smooth writing experience as it does not disappoint. Yes it's expensive but it's worth every penny. I do own some other Esterbrooks but this is by far my favourite.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I use this pen with ink cartridges? 8EDA1617-F73A-4DAF-8245-6D2BF4ABEB7B

A cartridge is small, disposable, sealed plastic reservoir that holds fountain pen ink. These come pre-filled with ink, and typically you just push to insert them into place and you'll be ready to write!

This pen uses standard international ink cartridges, a common size which is available in many colors from various brands.

You can learn more about how to actually install an ink cartridge on our blog, or in this video tutorial:

How do I use a converter? 8EDA1617-F73A-4DAF-8245-6D2BF4ABEB7B

A converter goes in the place of where the ink cartridge would normally go. From there, you can fill your fountain pen from bottled ink.

A converter is a detachable and refillable ink reservoir that allows you to use bottled ink in a cartridge-accepting pen. Typically you will install the converter into the grip section, dip the nib/feed into the ink, and twist or pull the converter knob to draw ink into the converter.

We have a great video showing how to use a converter here:

How do I clean this fountain pen? 8EDA1617-F73A-4DAF-8245-6D2BF4ABEB7B

It mostly comes down to flushing out the pen with water, and sometimes a little bit of pen flush if the ink is really stuck.

We put together a blog post with step-by-step instructions, or you can watch the video here:

We recommend a good cleaning every 2 weeks, and any time you change ink colors. Water will usually do the trick, but we recommend you use our Goulet Pen Flush if the ink has been left in the pen for a while and could have dried up, or when you’re switching ink colors.
