The LAMY studio elegantly shows just how close design and art can be. This premium writing instrument seamlessly fuses its individual elements with its convex cylindrical form while simultaneously foregoing all unnecessary embellishments. The propeller-shaped, seemingly twisted clip counters the objective elegance of the LAMY studio with an innovative design accent.

This 2022 special edition has a dark brown body with a glossy finish and subtle shimmer. It is equipped with a high gloss chrome grip and clip, and an interchangeable silver steel nib. This fountain pen comes with a blue LAMY ink cartridge and a Z27 converter for use with bottled ink so you can get started writing right away.

Note: To ensure quality performance, LAMY tests their pens as a final step in manufacturing. If you happen to see any residual blue ink, rest assured that this is normal.

Lamy Studio Pen

Pen was a great gift for my daughter-in-law. She absolutely loved it.

Lovely Brown Pen - Nicely Appointed

This pen looks impressive! It feels impressive, too. It has noticeable heft in the hand. Grip is round (not triangular) and is shiny silver. It's prone to showing fingerprints, so wipe it off periodically if that bugs you. It's a good writer, with a typical Lamy nib feel. Subtle snap cap is great (no threads on the barrel - which is a big plus). It has a touch of class, looks great on any desk, and is a fine addition to any collection.

Glad I took a chance

I have an Al-Star and do not like the nib or the grip at all. I took a chance on this pen, since I loved the look of the limited edition brown, and I am glad I did. The pen is smooth, balanced and really easy to write with for extended notetaking. The brown is even more impressive in person.

Love the color

I like Lamy for their quality control and have six Studios so far. Honestly, I was a bit disappointed in the green special edition, but the brown looks really nice in the hand, on a table. And when capped- the gap disappears- how do they do that? Why not buy one and fill it with brown ink? (Diamine Chocolate Brown is a good match.)

Lamy studio dark brown special edition

Writes smoothly, and consistently, more so than some higher priced pens I've purchased. Not totally happy with the grip; somewhat 'slippery'. Very dark brown. Sparkle and color most visible in bright light. Overall a good value.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I fill this LAMY fountain pen with ink? 8EDA1617-F73A-4DAF-8245-6D2BF4ABEB7B

This fountain pen can fill with proprietary LAMY ink cartridges, or from a LAMY converter.

A cartridge is small, disposable, sealed plastic reservoir that holds fountain pen ink. These come pre-filled with ink, and typically you just push to insert them into place and you'll be ready to write!

This pen uses proprietary LAMY ink cartridges, which are available in a range of colors.

As for converters, LAMY does make two different converters - the red Z28, and the black Z27. All of their fountain pens (except the 2000) can accept the black Z27; typically this converter is included with the higher-end LAMY pens like the aion, cp1, scala, and studio. The red Z28 has additional knobs for a more secure installation that is compatible (and sold separately) on the AL-star, joy, and safari.

We've got a great video demonstrating both filling methods here:

How do I clean a fountain pen? 8EDA1617-F73A-4DAF-8245-6D2BF4ABEB7B

It depends on the filling mechanism, but it mostly comes down to flushing it out with water, and sometimes a little bit of Pen Flush if the ink is really stuck.

It's a bit easier to show than to tell, so we've put together a few quick videos showing you the process:

We recommend a good cleaning every 2 weeks, and any time you change ink colors. Water will usually do the trick, but we recommend you use our Goulet Pen Flush if the ink has been left in the pen for a while and could have dried up, or when you’re switching ink colors.
