50ml Bottle

This 50ml glass bottle of Jacques Herbin 1798 Cornaline d'Egypte fountain pen ink is a deep orange color reminiscent of the semi-precious gemstone carnelian. A silver mist provides a lustrous shimmering and sheen effect. Each bottle cap is hand dipped in sealing wax, with a stamped "1798" seal on the front of the bottle, and is individually packaged in a collector edition box.

The ancient Egyptians considered carnelian to be one of the most calming and healing semi-precious gemstones. It was believed to elevate the mood, eliminate stress and was used as a symbol of life.

1798 commemorates a significant year in Jacques Herbin's history. At this time, the French Revolution was ending, and the Herbin company, founded in 1670, was growing. In 1798 the company relocated to expand their production capabilities and the influence of their inks and sealing wax.

Due to the amount of particulate in this ink used to achieve the sparking look, you may experience restricted ink flow in some of your pens. We recommend shaking the ink thoroughly before filling and gently rolling the pen in your hands often to keep the shimmer effect consistent. This will also help prevent clogging. You will also want to be diligent about cleaning and maintaining your pen when using this ink.

Beautiful!

I love the color and wetness, and it really shimmers and glows. Using it in a TWSBI 1.1 mm Stub. Quite a nice match with the new Saffron pen. I'm not usually an orange-gold fan, but this is truly a winner!

Current Favorite Ink

I filled my Lamy Safari - Terra with this ink to color match and feel it matches very well. The ink has been very well behaved and looks great with my medium nib. I'm currently using it to write notes and I really enjoy seeing the shimmer and shading come through. I appreciate how it's present but not distracting. I highly recommend this ink!

Holy glitter batman

I have several Herbin shimmers. This one tops them all for bling. I'm not big for orange, but this color is nice. But it's hard to beat the sheer volume of shimmer.

Beautiful shimmering orange ink

The ink arrived in a very lovely bottle. It is a beautiful medium colored orange and has a luminous quality. I paired it with my TWSBI Diamond 580 and it is a perfect match! The bottle should be shaken each time you fill your pen, as the golden hue goes to the bottom of the bottle.

Frequently Asked Questions

Which pens can accept this ink? 8EDA1617-F73A-4DAF-8245-6D2BF4ABEB7B

Any of these fountain pens will work with bottled ink. Typically, as long as the pen can be filled with a converter, has a built-in filling mechanism like a piston, or can be eyedropper-filled, it can accept bottled ink. You can also refill an empty ink cartridge from bottled ink using an ink syringe.

Is shimmering ink safe to use in fountain pens? 8EDA1617-F73A-4DAF-8245-6D2BF4ABEB7B

Yes! Shimmering ink (a fountain pen ink that has small particles of glitter mixed in) is a great way to add some flare to your writing. We have found that a larger nib will showcase more shimmering particles while writing, but you can use any nib size with shimmering ink. While it is safe to use in fountain pens, it may require a little extra maintenance.

Due to the amount of particulate in this ink used to achieve the sparking look, you may experience restricted ink flow in some of your pens, especially with finer nibs.

We recommend shaking the ink thoroughly before filling, and gently rolling the pen in your hands often to keep the shimmer effect consistent. This will also help prevent clogging.

You will also want to be diligent about regularly cleaning and maintaining your pen when using this ink.
