The TWSBI Mini comes with a benchmark piston ink-filling mechanism and has all detachable parts. Like many other TWSBI fountain pens, it features a crystal clear acrylic barrel so you can see your ink level, and a solid black cap. It is completed with silver trim and a silver stainless steel nib.

TWSBI's belief is that it is important to allow the user to disassemble and reassemble the pen and completely experience the traditional aspects of owning and using a fountain pen. These pens also come packaged with a wrench and silicone grease. Neither of these accessories are intended to be used immediately, as they are for long-term care and maintenance. Additionally, please use extra care if you choose to disassemble the nib and feed, as the feed is very fragile.

Great EDC Pen

I got this pen because I needed something small that I could jam in a pocket and carry everywhere. Based on my previous TWSBI purchases, I chose this over the Pilot or Kaweco. I'm very happy with it. On the plus side, it writes almost, but not quite, as good as my normal desk pen, the Pilot Custom 823. The piston mechanism gives me a nice ink capacity. It's pretty tiny, so I can stuff it in any pocket. It writes wet and smooth, so it's a great pen for signing things. The one con I can think of is that you have to screw the cap on to post it (and, like most mini-pens, it's too small to comfortably write with unposted). Depending on how you engage the threads, the pocket clip might end up facing down, against your hand, instead of up, away from it. I don't love that. But the build quality is good, and it feels substantial in the hand. Like all TWSBIs, it's not the most beautiful of pens, but the price is so attractive that I'm willing to overlook a lot in the looks department. For an EDC pen that's sturdily built and small enough to conveniently stick anywhere, it's very hard to beat this pen at the price.

I am sad.

I bought this pen to keep in my pocket and was impressed by the presentation but the nib was scratchy compared to my eco and the clip is so loose it fell out of my pocket on the first day I had it. 50 dollars gone in the blink of an eye.

THE PERFECT PEN!!

I currently own 3 full-sized TWSBIs, and while I love them, they’re a bit too heavy and long for my taste. I’m SO glad I bought this, because I get to keep the great quality and value TWSBI offers, in a smaller, lighter package! I’m currently using Colorverse Monkeyhead Nebula in this, since it didn’t play super nicely with my other pens, and once I use that up, this will DEFINITELY be my daily writer. It’s similar in size to the Kaweco sport, but slightly heavier. I will be purchasing ALL the nib replacements because this pen is just THAT perfect!!!

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I fill a fountain pen with ink? 8EDA1617-F73A-4DAF-8245-6D2BF4ABEB7B

It depends on the pen's filling mechanism, which you can find in the Technical Specs section above.

Here's a quick definition of the most common filling mechanisms:

  • Cartridge - A small, disposable, sealed plastic reservoir that holds fountain pen ink. These come pre-filled with ink, and typically you just push to insert them into place and you'll be ready to write! Check out our quick guide here.
  • Converter - A detachable and refillable ink reservoir that allows you to use bottled ink in a cartridge-accepting pen. Typically you will install the converter into the grip section, dip the nib/feed into the ink, and twist or pull the converter knob to draw ink into the converter. Here's a video for how to fill a cartridge/converter pen using a LAMY pen as an example.
  • Eyedropper - A pen that utilizes the entire barrel as a reservoir for ink. Ink is directly filled into the barrel, allowing for a high ink capacity. Here's a video on how to do it!
  • Piston - A type of filling system that uses a retracting plunger inside a sealed tube to draw ink into a pen. They are typically either twist or push-operated. These pens cannot accept cartridges or a converter, and only fill from bottled ink.
  • Vacuum - A push-style piston that uses pressure to fill the large pen body with ink. They seal the ink chamber when closed, making it ideal for flying without risk of leaking. Check out our video on how to use a vac filler here.

Check out more info on these filling mechanisms including a video on how to fill each one on our blog.

How do I clean this fountain pen? 8EDA1617-F73A-4DAF-8245-6D2BF4ABEB7B

It mostly comes down to flushing out the pen with water, and sometimes a little bit of pen flush if the ink is really stuck.

We put together a blog post with step-by-step instructions, or you can watch the video here:

We recommend a good cleaning every 2 weeks, and any time you change ink colors. Water will usually do the trick, but we recommend you use our Goulet Pen Flush if the ink has been left in the pen for a while and could have dried up, or when you’re switching ink colors.

For even more information about fountain pen cleaning, check out our Fountain Pen 101 video blog post.
