Shin-Kai blue ink

Oh I love this ink color because it is beautiful when wet and then as it dries, depending on how it is applied, it changes its color to a darker blue when the wet blue ink touches the drier part of the application. It's so lovely.

Ink Sample Review - Iroshizuku Shin-kai

The ink is good and looks great in the demonstrator pen (Asvine V200) that I am using it in. The color is fairly consistent although a light stroke vs a heavy stroke does definitely impact the depth in the color. I don't use a lot of colored inks but am a big fan of Pilot inks and this one has not disappointed.

Beautiful color

I lined up my pilot with this ink. It is beautiful on the page. It flows so nicely. Will be looking to get a bottle of this soon.

Shin-kai

It looks like a dustier, grayer version of R&K Salix without the shading that Salix has. Spreads a bit more in comparison to Salix or Montblanc Midnight Blue. Seems to flow very well and has good lubrication. Worth a sample.

Mediocre at best

Kind of a let down after seeing photos of this ink. I expected good shading and flow. My experience was dry, lackluster ink. Id recommend a Colorverse ink instead.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I fill my fountain pen from an ink sample vial? 8EDA1617-F73A-4DAF-8245-6D2BF4ABEB7B

The technique depends on the fountain pen's filling mechanism.

Check out our blog post on How to Fill a Fountain Pen from an Ink Sample Vial, or watch the video here:

How much writing can I really do with 2ml? 8EDA1617-F73A-4DAF-8245-6D2BF4ABEB7B

We find that usually you can get 2 good fills for a typical converter with our ink samples, or one good fill with a large capacity piston-filling pen.

How much writing you can do depends on you more than anything else. It mostly depends on how big or small you write, and the nib size you’re using. We recommend experimenting with different nib sizes to find what works best for you.
