This translucent purple resin Magnum fountain pen is one of Diplomat’s most affordable offerings. The special no-slip lacquer gives the body a soft touch, and it has an ergonomic grip section. It comes equipped with a smooth writing JoWo stainless steel nib, shiny chrome trim, and fills via standard international cartridge/converter (both are included).

Note: The Diplomat Magnum is gradually transitioning from matte to polished nibs. What you receive may be different than what is pictured here.

Pleasently surprised

Having read the reviews after I placed my order I was a bit worried that I had made a mistake. I have many Diplomat Aero's and I love them. So when this arrived I was quite skeptical, so my first impression is that it is really light and quite small compared with my aero's in circumference . It how ever writes very smoothly, I purchased the Medium nib, I think the price is ok probably paying for the brand name.

Review of Diplomat Magnum Fountain Pen

The pen meets expectations. It writes nicely with enough roughness. The ink flow is good. It looks good. The material feels a little plastic but not overly so. The grip is sufficient not to be slippery. It rests comfortably in my (relatively a little larger than average) hand. I'm happy to have purchased this pen from The Goulet Pen Co.

not worth the cost

I was excited to get a Diplomat. I opened the box, inked the pen, and wrote a few quotes on my Rhodia notepad. It was not the experience I was expecting for the cost. The pen materials make it feel and look cheap.

Very Pleased

Up to this point I have only bought calligraphy pens for when I play with ink in my daily journals. Today's experience with my new fountain pen guarantees it a spot in the quick grab cup on my desk. Thanks for the ink by the way.

Nice!

My first fountain pen, and I was shocked at how smooth it was to write with. It's very good for my hands, I haven't experienced any cramping since I started using it for writing. Switched to a ballpoint pen when I ran out of ink and ow, ow, ow! I adore the purple color (although I do wish it were solid purple and not semi transparent). It also doesn't seem to work too well with Indian Ink, it kept having to be flooded in order to write properly. But switching it back to water-based ink got it working smoothly again, and much less frustrating! Will definitely buy this as a starter pen again, if ever I was to lose mine (heaven forbid). The shipping was so fast and the note included was very sweet, will also buy from Goulet Pens again. Great deal!

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I use this pen with ink cartridges? 8EDA1617-F73A-4DAF-8245-6D2BF4ABEB7B

A cartridge is small, disposable, sealed plastic reservoir that holds fountain pen ink. These come pre-filled with ink, and typically you just push to insert them into place and you'll be ready to write!

This pen uses standard international ink cartridges, a common size which is available in many colors from various brands.

You can learn more about how to actually install an ink cartridge on our blog, or in this video tutorial:

How do I use a converter? 8EDA1617-F73A-4DAF-8245-6D2BF4ABEB7B

A converter goes in the place of where the ink cartridge would normally go. From there, you can fill your fountain pen from bottled ink.

A converter is a detachable and refillable ink reservoir that allows you to use bottled ink in a cartridge-accepting pen. Typically you will install the converter into the grip section, dip the nib/feed into the ink, and twist or pull the converter knob to draw ink into the converter.

We have a great video showing how to use a converter here:

How do I clean this fountain pen? 8EDA1617-F73A-4DAF-8245-6D2BF4ABEB7B

It mostly comes down to flushing out the pen with water, and sometimes a little bit of pen flush if the ink is really stuck.

We put together a blog post with step-by-step instructions, or you can watch the video here:

We recommend a good cleaning every 2 weeks, and any time you change ink colors. Water will usually do the trick, but we recommend you use our Goulet Pen Flush if the ink has been left in the pen for a while and could have dried up, or when you’re switching ink colors.
