This abalone shell and black resin Conklin Duragraph fountain pen comes with a standard international converter and an ink cartridge. The Conklin Duragraph fountain pen is now offered with your choice of a reliable, smooth-writing German made JoWo #6 silver steel nib in extra-fine, fine, medium, broad, or 1.1mm stub, or the new JoWo silver Omniflex flexible steel nib for variation in line width.

Our note about the JoWo Omniflex nib: This flex nib will allow you to experience more bounce and softness than writing with conventional nibs. You can achieve some line variation with a little additional downward pressure, to a point. We recommend flexing the nib to about twice the line width that you would see without using any pressure. Please take care to avoid pressing too hard on the nib, as over-flexing could prevent the tines from returning fully to their original position and decrease or stop your ink flow.

The Duragraph draws its inspiration from the rich heritage of the Conklin brand, which was purchased and revived by Yafa in 2009. It is manufactured in Asia, assembled and distributed from Canoga Park, California, and pays tribute to its roots with a “Toledo, Ohio” engraving on its nib and barrel. The cap top is embellished with the Conklin Est. 1898 logo and the cap band are engraved with the famous Duragraph model script font with three Conklin Crescent logos on either side of the model name.

In 1923, the Duragraph model was launched, and shortly afterwards was considered to be "the definitive" pen. The model was named by combining the words, durable and graph - Duragraph. Created to last as an heirloom to serve many generations, the Duragraph is offered with a lifetime guarantee. In honor of the Duragraph's 91st birthday, Conklin has introduced a new Duragraph collection that brings a fresh, modern style to a timeless oversize flat top design. Crafted from quality hand made resins, the Duragraph is substantial in size, yet not so large to be unwieldy in the hand.

The Duragraph offers the ideal choice for your individual handwriting style. The cap top mounted clip allows the pen to sit low in the pocket, making this model a more practical choice for everyday use. Each Conklin fine writing instrument is housed in a luxury gift presentation box lined with rich satin. It comes with a converter and also accepts short standard international cartridges. Ideal as a perfect gift for yourself or a loved one, this model is the right size for both men and women who use fine writing instruments in their daily professional lives.

I have purchased two of these. I bought one for my dad and was so jealous of its look I had to buy myself one. Been pleased with its build quality and performance.

Pleasant writing experience

I bought abalone Fine nib one and demo EF nib. The abalone fountain pen is perfect. The ink flow is good. Good weight. Well balanced. Love the screw type cartridge. Lastly, the nib seems to have 52:48 split ratio.

Sweet pen!

I've been on a fountain pen kick and bought a few new pens and inks in the past few months. I just got the Conklin Duragraph in Abalone Nights after years of having it on my wish list. The fine or medium nib (whichever I had in my cart) had sold out, so I went with extra fine because it was in stock. I'm usually a medium nib girl, but I like variety too. Well, not only is this pen amazingly beautiful, but it wrote perfectly straight out of the box, no priming needed. It's comfortable to hold, has a longer distance from grip to nib tip, which seems to help improve my handwriting, and is just an all around wonderful pen with a great writing experience. Highly recommeded! The size and shape is comparable to a TWSBI, but the weight distribution is a bit different - less weight in the back end, I think. The is at least in the running for favorite pen status, but the Pilot Metropolitan might still have it beat.

My first Conklin didn't disappoint

I'm somewhat new to this addictive hobby, so buying a $120 ($Canadian) pen online was a bit of a risk. Goulet and Conklin came through with fabulous service and a beautiful pen. Filled it with LAMY dark lilac which isn't controversial to me because I don't know what the original looked like . The sheen comes through even with a fine nib. Thanks to the Goulet team for a fantastic addition to my growing collection!

Conklin Duragraph Fountain Pen - Abalone Nights W/flexible nib

I discovered that I must have paper that the ink will not saturate. Until I find that paper, I believe I cannot make a fair assessment of the pen's potential. With the notebook journal I use, the slightest pressure leads to bleed-through. Physically the pen is a beauty and is comfortable in my hand.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I use this pen with ink cartridges? 8EDA1617-F73A-4DAF-8245-6D2BF4ABEB7B

A cartridge is small, disposable, sealed plastic reservoir that holds fountain pen ink. These come pre-filled with ink, and typically you just push to insert them into place and you'll be ready to write!

This pen uses standard international ink cartridges, a common size which is available in many colors from various brands.

You can learn more about how to actually install an ink cartridge on our blog, or in this video tutorial:

How do I use a converter? 8EDA1617-F73A-4DAF-8245-6D2BF4ABEB7B

A converter goes in the place of where the ink cartridge would normally go. From there, you can fill your fountain pen from bottled ink.

A converter is a detachable and refillable ink reservoir that allows you to use bottled ink in a cartridge-accepting pen. Typically you will install the converter into the grip section, dip the nib/feed into the ink, and twist or pull the converter knob to draw ink into the converter.

We have a great video showing how to use a converter here:

How do I clean this fountain pen? 8EDA1617-F73A-4DAF-8245-6D2BF4ABEB7B

It mostly comes down to flushing out the pen with water, and sometimes a little bit of pen flush if the ink is really stuck.

We put together a blog post with step-by-step instructions, or you can watch the video here:

We recommend a good cleaning every 2 weeks, and any time you change ink colors. Water will usually do the trick, but we recommend you use our Goulet Pen Flush if the ink has been left in the pen for a while and could have dried up, or when you’re switching ink colors.
