Noodler's Heart of Darkness is a popular permanent black fountain pen ink that comes in this 2ml ink sample. This ink is popular for its very dark color and performance on absorbent paper, particularly its ability to resist bleed through and feathering. If you don't have a say in the quality of the paper you use, this ink is one of the best for you.

Not as saturated as Id like

Great color but comes out thin/not as saturated as I would like and leans to the brown side as a result. The sample was very well packaged and sealed though.

This is such a great color!

I really like this color as it is a bit darker than grey but has the ability to be used for shading.

Nearly perfect

This is a very nice, very black ink. My only issue with it is that it's quite wet, so it tends to feather/create broad strokes on cheap notebook paper. I'm using a Platinum Preppy with a fine nib, so maybe it would behave better in my Pilot Metropolitan fine nib. If this ink had the same flow as the Platinum Carbon Black (another nearly perfect ink, but looks faded/light when dry), it would be perfect!

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I fill my fountain pen from an ink sample vial? 8EDA1617-F73A-4DAF-8245-6D2BF4ABEB7B

The technique depends on the fountain pen's filling mechanism.

Check out our blog post on How to Fill a Fountain Pen from an Ink Sample Vial, or watch the video here:

How much writing can I really do with 2ml? 8EDA1617-F73A-4DAF-8245-6D2BF4ABEB7B

We find that usually you can get 2 good fills for a typical converter with our ink samples, or one good fill with a large capacity piston-filling pen.

How much writing you can do depends on you more than anything else. It mostly depends on how big or small you write, and the nib size you’re using. We recommend experimenting with different nib sizes to find what works best for you.
