Unlike traditional primary grade handwriting manuals that seek to introduce the basic techniques of written language to young students, The Art of Cursive Penmanship presents the subject of handwriting as a valuable and spontaneous skill for the adult. In this context, it remains an intimate ability of communication and expression; a personal asset for life.

Authored by internationally recognized master penman, Michael R. Sull, The Art of Cursive Penmanship focuses on practical self-study techniques designed to accommodate anyone's personal or professional schedule. With determined and consistent use, the daily application of these methods will result in progressive improvement of letterforms, legibility, letter spacing, creating one's signature, the appearance of an individual's penmanship, and the physical action of handwriting through proper posture, correct use of hand and arm muscles, paper position, and a comfortable speed of writing. Recommendations are also offered on the most efficient writing instruments to use, so that handwriting becomes a pleasant activity to be enjoyed, rather than an action merely to be effected.

This 253-page spiralbound workbook measures 9.75" x 11.25" and is fountain pen friendly!

Fantastic Course

This is exactly what I was hoping it would be. I'm improving my cursive with it now and when my children are seven I'll have them follow this same book.

Plenty of good practice sheets

I found this book through the Pencast after looking for a good practice book for ages. It had plenty of sheets and you can also use different paper to trace over it. The letters start off very very large so it is difficult and awkward to write them, but I believe this is done so that you have to train your larger muscles and not rely on finger movements. I did have a few problems with the book, mainly about the format. Having it in a nicely presented binder is a plus, but at the same time it makes it that much more difficult to use. The binder rings are in the way and you lose hand support at the edges. The progression is also strange to me, with written chapters spread through the book when knowledge about history, technique, posture, etc. seems useful to know *before* doing all the practicing.

All the things you wish they'd taught you about writing in school.

I think by the 1980's they had stopped teaching anything about cursive except to tilt your paper. They just gave you sheets to copy and didn't give much else instruction. I always felt my pensmanship was lacking, so I purchased this book hoping to rectify that situation, and WOW. There is a lot to think about and sort through before you even start to write as you work through this book. And it's worth it. Just a few lessons in, after doing a lot of individual letter exercises, I can see the difference in my own writing. It was such a remarkable difference, that my mother asked my about my hand writing after I sent her a hand written note during the holidays, and I told her about this book, and she's buying a copy for herself.

Organic Studio

I have been looking for inks that didn't show through paper to the reverse side. Bingo. I really like OS Santiago Blue. Very nice ink, and it doesn't bleed. Yay.Bruce Logue
