Visconti is proud to present the Dreaming Starry Night, the crowning achievement of a grand journey spanning more than twenty years, driven by a passion for art, a love for beauty and a dedication to quality. The first Visconti pens dedicated to Vincent Van Gogh date back to 2001, and since then Visconti has never stopped celebrating the life and works of this legendary Dutch painter.

The design of the collection is inspired by Van Gogh's famous impasto brushstrokes which, through the application of thick layers of oil paint, gave his masterpieces their characteristic vibrant effect, To recreate this feeling, the barrel and cap of the Dreaming Starry Night pen are crafted using the ancient and sculptural technique of lost-wax silver casting. This way, by touching the pen, one can feel the ridges and swirls that characterize Van Gogh's works. On this silver micro-cast base, an enamel layer is applied, recreating the most famous work by the Dutch painter: The Starry Night.

Each pen is unique, meticulously hand-enameled by master artisans to pay homage to Van Gogh's pictorial mastery and ensure the highest level of craftsmanship: the hand-enamel process guarantees that no two are exactly alike, giving to this collection the beauty of individuality.

The variations in color and texture make each pen a unique work of art. This uniqueness adds character and makes each pen a true collector's item. It’s not just a writing instrument, but a unique creation with its own story and personality.

Even the smallest details of the Dreaming Starry Night are designed to celebrate art, with the pen boasting incredible features. The clip is micro-cast in yellow gold-plated silver, representing a paintbrush. The band features Van Gogh's signature, engraved and highlighted with a blue enamel layer that elegantly contrasts with the yellow gold-plated metalwork of the pen.

The fountain pen features Visconti's famous double reservoir power filling system with a threaded cap closure and an 18kt yellow gold nib in fine or medium. The collection is limited to 230 pieces worldwide.

The pen is complemented by a special stand reminiscent of the world of painting, designed as a precious frame resting on its easel. The canvas also features Vincent Van Gogh's golden signature and a plaque bearing the Visconti logo and the name of the collection. In this way, the Dreaming Starry Night can be displayed as the center of the canvas - the most fitting context for a true work of art.

Please also note we are unable to accept a return of this pen for any reason once it has been used with ink. Please thoroughly inspect and dry test the pen before use.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I fill a fountain pen with ink? 8EDA1617-F73A-4DAF-8245-6D2BF4ABEB7B

It depends on the pen's filling mechanism, which you can find in the Technical Specs section above.

Here's a quick definition of the most common filling mechanisms:

  • Cartridge - A small, disposable, sealed plastic reservoir that holds fountain pen ink. These come pre-filled with ink, and typically you just push to insert them into place and you'll be ready to write! Check out our quick guide here.
  • Converter - A detachable and refillable ink reservoir that allows you to use bottled ink in a cartridge-accepting pen. Typically you will install the converter into the grip section, dip the nib/feed into the ink, and twist or pull the converter knob to draw ink into the converter. Here's a video for how to fill a cartridge/converter pen using a LAMY pen as an example.
  • Eyedropper - A pen that utilizes the entire barrel as a reservoir for ink. Ink is directly filled into the barrel, allowing for a high ink capacity. Here's a video on how to do it!
  • Piston - A type of filling system that uses a retracting plunger inside a sealed tube to draw ink into a pen. They are typically either twist or push-operated. These pens cannot accept cartridges or a converter, and only fill from bottled ink.
  • Vacuum - A push-style piston that uses pressure to fill the large pen body with ink. They seal the ink chamber when closed, making it ideal for flying without risk of leaking. Check out our video on how to use a vac filler here.

How do I clean this fountain pen? 8EDA1617-F73A-4DAF-8245-6D2BF4ABEB7B

It mostly comes down to flushing out the pen with water, and sometimes a little bit of pen flush if the ink is really stuck.

We put together a blog post with step-by-step instructions, or you can watch the video here:

We recommend a good cleaning every 2 weeks, and any time you change ink colors. Water will usually do the trick, but we recommend you use our Goulet Pen Flush if the ink has been left in the pen for a while and could have dried up, or when you’re switching ink colors.

For even more information about fountain pen cleaning, check out our Fountain Pen 101 video blog post.
