When they work, they're great

I picked these up on a whim figuring they would be easier to use than converters when playing with ink samples. Unfortunately, I was mistaken. They're easy to fill, but they don't seem to like any of my pens. The cartridges have a disturbing tendency to detach and leak inside the pen. So far, I've tried them on two new Ritmas, 2 older Nemosine Fissions, and a custom pen from a local craftsman and the longest I've had a cartridge say attached and not start leaking is 3 days. When they're attached, they work quite well. It's just that whole staying attached and not leaking issue makes these essentially useless to me. Time to brush up on cleaning out converters and allowing a bit more time between ink ink changes.

Excellent

Very good information. I have not yet to move to bootle ink. I love some of the colours in bottle format and have thought of doing what you showed on the video but had concerns about water and contamination. You answered both questions. Thank you.

Can I refill an ink cartridge? 8EDA1617-F73A-4DAF-8245-6D2BF4ABEB7B

Yes! You'll need an ink syringe, but in general it's pretty easy to do.

We've got a detailed video blog post with step-by-step instructions here:

How do I install an ink cartridge? 8EDA1617-F73A-4DAF-8245-6D2BF4ABEB7B

A cartridge is small, disposable, sealed plastic reservoir that holds fountain pen ink. These come pre-filled with ink, and typically you just push to insert them into place and you'll be ready to write!

It's pretty easy, but it may be best to explain in video format. You can learn more about how to actually install an ink cartridge on our blog, or in this video tutorial:

What fountain pens are compatible with these ink cartridges? 8EDA1617-F73A-4DAF-8245-6D2BF4ABEB7B

There are two main groups of ink cartridges: standard international (available in short and long sizes), and proprietary (which only fit that particular brand).

You can read which cartridges fit a given fountain pen in that pen's product description or Tech Specs. You can also check out our Cartridge/Converter guide for general brand guidance if you’re unsure.
