The motif of this pen features an assortment of beautiful cherry blossoms, one of the most familiar flowers in Japan.
The cherry blossoms in full bloom herald the arrival of spring and attract people from all over the world. The beauty of cherry blossoms at night, known as "yozakura," is expressed in this design using the Flat Maki-e and Raden techniques. These techniques capture the enchanting spectacle of cherry blossoms illuminating the night, a phenomenon called "hana akari," which provides a serene and peaceful glow even in darkness.
The cherry blossoms are painted and then applied with rounded gold powders, followed by a coating of pink urushi lacquer. Cherry blossom petals and the background are created with Burnished Maki-e. This involves applying small pieces of Raden (mother-of-pearl) and black lacquer, which are then polished to reveal the intricate design. The finials also utilize the Burnished Maki-e technique, with flattened silver powders and black lacquer to achieve a stunning finish.
This exquisite piece is crafted by the renowned Kokkokai artisan, Yumi Hayashi, whose signature appears on each pen as a mark of its exceptional craftsmanship. The pen has an 18k gold nib (#10), fills via cartridge/converter (a CON-70 is included), and comes packaged in a wooden box with a bottle of ink. As these pens are truly one-of-a-kind pieces of art, they are warrantied for life by Namiki.
Please also note we are unable to accept a return of this pen for any reason once it has been used with ink. Please thoroughly inspect and dry test the pen before use.
